[20 April 2005] Habemus Papam

"We have a pope!"

I should be sleeping. I really should. The Chorale's going to sing at the 96th Commencement Exercises a.k.a. graduation rites of UP Manila in PICC later, and our call time is 6 AM.

But when I was about to go to sleep, Sab texted me and said a new pope has been elected!

Sayang, di ko nakita yung white smoke at bell ringing. I was too late. All news channels already focused their cameras on the balcony where one cardinal will announce who was chosen.

On April 19, 2005, the 2nd day of the conclave, at 1:30 PM GMT, Senior Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger of Germany has been chosen to be the 265th successor of St. Peter. Ratzinger decided to take the name St. Benedict XVI.

They say he's really conservative. Personally, he looks evil, pero mukha lang naman eh. Looks can be deceiving. I'm sure he'll do great things for God, for the Church, for His people.

Lord, huwag Mo pong papabayaan ang aming bagong papa. Ituro Mo sa kanya ang tamang daan, ang tamang paraan. Naman... I know that God will, and there's no doubt about it.
