[08 August 2006] Study break first...
Information overload. Waaah.

*~*~*

Yesterday afternoon during Clin Chem lab was the first time I got REALLY scared after a venipuncture. I'm not afraid of needles, which is why I don't mind volunteering to be a guinea pig for a moment. But after today, I would definitely think twice before offering my veins to anyone. My life is at risk.

Constantly, we are reminded of the proper procedure for venipuncture. We should do each step with caution. And we should ALWAYS keep in mind that some mistakes can lead to complications, even DEATH. Friggin' scary. I never really thought that that may happen until this afternoon's lab session, when my classmate unconsciously got the syringe out of my vein and skin already (and I told her), then she put it back in!

Seeing blood flowing out of my skin plus the bevel slowly becoming visible was scary enough. But the thought of getting air embolism... I felt that in a few seconds, I should be expecting for my life to flash before my eyes. The feeling is not exaggerated, believe me.

I'm not mad at my classmate, though. She must've gotten nervous. Surprisingly and fortunately, I didn't get a hematoma. She promised me that I can do a venipuncture on her next week. Not her fault. No hard feelings. No revenge. Hehehehe. Hopefully, I'd be able to increase my (almost always painless ) venipuncture success rate to 72% next Monday.

I cannot believe I actually found out what SPADNS means. It's sodium-2-(parasulfophenylazo)-1,8-dihydroxy-3,6-naphthalene disulfonate. Tama, SPADNS na nga lang.

Blogging has kept me awake. Hehehe.

6 more hours before the EH exam!!! Got to get back to studying!
